Prefer to preserve your cash and still have a practically new Kalmar/Ottawa Truck—take the refurbished route

We all know the economy has been tough the last several years. Are we turning the corner? Your guess is as good as ours. So in our mind, it’s still a great time to buy used and to refurbish. Or why not let us re-power and refurbish your existing truck. Are the frame and cab good? If you’re thinking about going that route, it’s one of our specialties. It’s in our bailiwick as they say. Our sweet spot. It’s almost our favorite thing to do, besides play golf.

There are many benefits to working with Louisville Switching Truck Sales to acquire or refurbish a used Ottawa. We’ve listed a few below:

  • We have a constant stream of incoming used trucks.
  • We know where to find used trucks.
  • We have a loyal customer base that looks to us to sell and service their used trucks.
  • We keep a constant watch for used trucks.
  • Working with us to buy or lease a refurbished Ottawa saves money up front.
  • Working with us to refurbish a used Ottawa terminal tractor allows you to avoid some of the regulations that are required for a new engine and truck.

We recently finished a refurbishment of an Ottawa, and we have provided some before and after pictures below.

Dead set on a new unit? We can sell those too.

Our First Insta-Chain Ice Chain Installation

A few months ago we shared a video of our training with Tim Joyce, VP of sales and marketing for Insta-Chain Automatic Ice Chains.

Last week, we completed installation of our very first ice chain system. This installation was performed on a fire truck that operates in a rural part of Kentucky. The fire station needed the truck to be able to maneuver safely and quickly in almost any weather condition, especially snow and ice.

Yes, we ran into a couple of speed bumps during the installation process, but Kory did an excellent and timely job installing the insta-chains.

The videos are broken down into three parts. Enjoy watching and we’ll keep you posted with any new insta-chain installations in the future!

New Service Truck Purchased

Louisville Switching new service truckWe finally bought another service truck! After a long and hard search, we decided to purchase a partially refurbished 1996 model. We did most of the fine-tuning in our shop with our team. Since a big part of our business is buying and refurbishing used Ottawa and Kalmar trucks to lease or sell to our customers, we thought, why not use the same process to find our service truck? When we started the search, we knew we needed a truck that had a mounted crane and would be able to lift heavy parts in the field. This can lead to less down time and less cost in transporting a truck back to our bay for service. This truck has proven to serve those needs well and it’s made our service tech, Gordon very happy. That’s important to us.

This purchase is good news for our customers. It means we have another truck in line, ready for your call. Your after-hours calls, even at 3 a.m., go directly to our service technicians. Our service guys drive the service trucks home every night which eliminates the extra time it would take to pick up the trucks at the shop. Our customer service is our lifeblood. We’re doing everything we can to make it top notch.

Take a look at our new service truck and tell us what you think!

Our new service truck is making it’s rounds now

At Louisville Switching Truck Sales, service is very important to our customers and thus very important to us. Our mobile service trucks and parts/delivery truck make it possible for us to service customers on site. Sure there are still times when it makes sense to haul your truck back to our service bay, but many times service can be done in the field.

Our new mobile service truck is unique in it’s ability to change oil through a closed loop system. The truck vacuums the oil out through a connector hose and then refills it. It’s equipped with oil tanks on each side of the truck for this purpose. We were excited about our new truck and we hope our customers will be as well.

Another part of servicing customers, is delivering parts when you need them most. Our parts and delivery truck is also pictured below. We’ll put some miles on this truck keeping our customers stocked with the parts they need.

What type of parts do we sell?

We’re glad you asked. We sell Insta Chain Automatic Ice-chain Parts, Interstate Batteries, Ottawa Truck Parts, Cummins Diesel Engine Parts, Jasper Engines and Transmissions, Weller Reman Truck Parts and many other misc Truck Parts,

If you’re in the market for any of these, we’d love to earn your business.

Introducing Butch Troutt our new Inside Sales Manager

Our customers are the reason we exist. We wake up every day and think of ways to service them better. Our dealer relationships are also very important to our success and growth. We have done our due diligence over the years in selecting brands that we feel complement our focus on quality and service.

One of our latest moves this spring was to add a new member to our team here in Louisville KY. At this time we’d like to welcome Butch Troutt as our new inside sales manager. As we have expanded our offering of parts from our dealer relationships we saw a need to have someone with a great deal of experience managing inventory to work with our existing customers. In this video Butch gives a quick introduction and then walks us through his ideas for reworking the parts department. Stay tuned for the after video.

If you have any questions about parts or our new dealerships, please don’t hesitate to connect with us on Facebook, follow along or Twitter, email us, phone us or use this handy online contact form.

Our trip to Insta-Chain in Utah

In one of our recent posts, we mentioned a new dealership opportunity with Insta-Chain. Insta-Chain is based in Springville, Utah, just south of Provo. We have been excited to meet the team at Insta-Chain since we crossed paths at this years Mid America Truck Show. We wanted to see first hand their operations and perform our normal due diligence. We take our dealership partners very seriously. Well the trip solidified everything. Insta-Chain is a true family run business and we met much of their support team while there. We had meetings with the owner and the VP of Sales and Marketing. Along with touring the facilities, we were able to watch the manufacturing of their products. They are truly made in the USA.

One great win win of our dealership arrangement is our ability to stock and ship parts from Louisville, KY. Of course we get to help take an amazing and much needed product to the midwest and southeastern region as well. After all we have snow and ice here too as last winter was a good indication of that. We’re excited at the added productivity we can bring to our existing customer base along with opening new markets and customers. The product is DOT (Department of Transportation) approved in case you were wondering.

The trip, although mostly business, didn’t involve golfing like usual, but instead a trip into the mountains. Paragliders and hang gliders were flying off cliffs and giving us a new appreciation for extreme sports. No we didn’t participate in case you were wondering.

Our next post will highlight product features, some potential customers and include a quick video of how the automatic ice chains work.

Louisville Switching Truck Sales Launches new website

It had been several years since we launched our last website. We were due for a redesign and were looking for a platform we could update easily with new content. We also wanted to start communicating with our staff, customers and fans through a blog.

We were intrigued by the world of social media and how it can help develop better relationships with our suppliers, dealerships, customers and our community.

Well we’ll be putting these tools into practice in the coming months and year. Starting first with our website updates and blog.
